Overview
Lung cancer is one of the most devastating cancers that a person can face. Mortality is high, survival is short, and available treatments are not often able to make dramatic changes in the evolution of the disease. There need to be reviews of lung cancer treatment and palliative care in order to correctly apply the resources that are available, and take advantage of any opportunities for people suffering from this disease. In many cases, the most important contribution of a Cochrane Review Group in this area will be to investigate the methods available to ease the suffering of the afflicted.
The Cochrane Lung Cancer Group (LCG) is dedicated to conducting systematic reviews on all aspects of primary prevention, therapy, supportive care, psychological interventions, biological therapy, and complementary therapy for the prevention, treatment and care of people with lung cancer and other intra-thoracic tumors.
The LCG is open to new collaborators, collaboration is voluntary, and participation from new collaborators is both welcome and encouraged. Follow the links below for more information, or register your interest directly from this Web page.
The Review Process
Title Registration
When a title is received, it is recorded in the Lung Cancer Group's registry, along with contact details for the author and the expected completion date. If no Protocol is submitted for the title within six (6) months, the title is withdrawn. Turnaround time: 1 week.
Protocol Review
When a protocol is received, it is registered and sent to two (2) editors in the appropriate editorial category for refereeing, and the submitting author is notified. One of these editors is responsible for "following" the review through the editorial process, and serves as lead referee for that review. If the review contains any content that is considered by the Coordinator, Coordinating Editor, or any of the reviewing Editors to require an extended review, it is sent to the appropriate member of the Advisory Committee. An example of this would be additional review of a meta-analysis by a statistician.
Editors comments are collected and returned to the submitting author when they are all completed. Turnaround time: four (4) weeks.
Editorial Review Of Complete Review
Each completed Review is refereed by three (3) editors in the appropriate area of investigation. If at all possible these should be the two editors who commented on the original protocol, and one other. In any case, one of the editors must be the lead editor for this review, unless circumstances make it impossible. An external review is also sought. Turnaround time: Six (6) weeks.
A second review for language, style, and clarity is done for each review, to ensure that it is readable and grammatically acceptable. The Review Group Coordinator is responsible for this task.
